Should my agent use one model or a failover group?
Choose a fixed model or a routed pool based on predictability, capability, and failover needs.

A fixed connection is predictable; a failover group only tries configured candidates and may change capabilities and cost.
When should I use one fixed model?
Choose a single model when you need predictable behavior, a specific provider capability, or easier reproduction of issues. The desktop app's direct-use configuration gives each selected connection its own downstream model ID. A failed request may retry the same model, but it does not automatically move to another model.
How does a model group fail over?
A scheduling mode such as failover publishes a stable model alias and applies its configured candidates and policy. Candidates should share the capabilities needed for the task. Only errors that satisfy the policy may trigger a switch; a configured backup does not guarantee recovery from every failure.
Can failover change the result or price?
A backup model may differ in context length, tools or multimodal support, response style, and provider pricing. Compare the shared capabilities and rates before enabling it, then inspect execution records or logs for the model actually used. A model group is not a set of interchangeable copies.
