Will switching an agent's model affect other clients or old chats?
Understand agent configuration paths, shared desktop and CLI settings, conversation history, and the effect of a model switch.
Maintained by the 路墨 Lumoswitch product team
A model configuration applies to the target agent path; desktop and CLI clients sharing that path may both change, while old conversation history is not migrated or rewritten.
Does switching affect only the selected agent?
Lumoswitch applies configuration to the target agent's native path. A CLI and desktop app that read the same file may share the new model; installations using separate directories may be independent. Check the path in the preview instead of relying on the app name alone.
Will old conversations automatically use the new model?
A configuration switch does not migrate old conversations to a new model or rewrite their history. Whether an existing session keeps an old model depends on how that agent stores session settings; a new session generally reads the current configuration. Reopen the agent and check the model in a new conversation.
How can I reduce the risk of switching?
Record the current model and path, and create a manual configuration backup if needed. Review the new connection and target file in the preview before applying. Verify with a small, non-sensitive task. If the change fails, inspect the error and actual configuration before restoring a backup; restore replaces listed complete files and does not create another backup automatically.
